Freelancer vs agency website design: which do you need?
A freelancer is one person selling their time. An agency is a team selling a result. The right answer depends on how complex your project is and how much of it you can manage yourself. Here is the honest version, including the cases where you should not hire us.

Freelancer vs agency website design, in one line.
Pick a freelancer when the job is well defined
A five to ten page site, a landing page, a redesign of something that already works. You deal directly with the person doing the work, and you pay less because there is no one else to pay.
Pick an agency when the project has moving parts
Ecommerce with real stock, integrations, several specialists working at once, or a deadline that cannot move. You pay for capacity and continuity.
The real difference is risk, not quality
A freelancer is one point of failure. An agency is a layer between you and the person actually building. Both are fine, as long as you know which one you are buying.
What you are actually choosing between.

When each is the right call.
A freelancer is the right call when
- The scope is clear and unlikely to grow mid-project
- You want to talk to the person doing the work, not an account manager
- Your budget is real but limited, and you would rather spend it on the build than on overheads
- You can give feedback yourself, quickly, without a committee
An agency is worth the money when
- Ecommerce with real stock, payments and shipping rules
- Integrations with a CRM, an ERP or a booking system
- A launch date tied to something expensive, like an event or a campaign
- You need design, development, copy and analytics running at the same time
- Your business cannot afford a week of nobody answering
If your project needs a team, we will say so on the call rather than take it on. We would rather lose the work than deliver it badly.
Three published figures, and ours.
Indian freelancers typically charge Rs 10,000 to Rs 50,000, and agencies Rs 40,000 to Rs 2,00,000 and up, according to guides published in 2026. A real quote recorded in one of them: Rs 12,000 for a theme on shared hosting from a freelancer, and Rs 45,000 from an agency for a premium theme sold as a custom design.
Monarch sits at Rs 65,000, Rs 95,000 and Rs 1,50,000, with no tax added. Above most freelancers, below most agencies, with research before design and 45 to 60 days of support after launch. Whether that is worth it depends on whether your website is supposed to bring you enquiries or simply exist.
Questions that expose a bad fit, either way.
- Who exactly will build this, and will I speak to them during the project?
- What happens if you are unavailable for two weeks?
- What research happens before design starts?
- Is the price fixed, and what changes it?
- Do I own the domain, the hosting and the admin access from day one?
- What is included after launch, and for how long?
- Can I see three finished sites and read reviews from those clients?
What people ask.
Usually, but the gap is often scope rather than rate. A Rs 12,000 freelancer quote and a Rs 80,000 agency quote are rarely for the same work. Compare what is excluded, not the totals.
You are protected by what you own rather than by team size. The domain, the hosting and the admin access are in your name from day one, so the site is never locked to us and any developer can pick it up. Monarch also takes only three new projects a month, which is what keeps every project properly attended to, and you always speak to the person building your site rather than an account manager.
One person who works like a studio: research before design, a defined process, published prices, and 45 to 60 days of support after launch. Founded in 2024 and run by Mona Mani, who builds every site personally.
A straightforward store, often yes. Real stock, multiple payment routes, shipping rules and integrations are where a team starts to earn the difference.
That is normal and fine, as long as you own the domain, the hosting and the admin access, so anyone can pick the site up. If you do not own those, you are not choosing your next supplier, you are stuck with your current one.
